We all know that today’s public schools are overwhelmed with extraordinary challenges and diminishing resources, particularly in places like South King County.
Amid these difficult circumstances, opportunities for young people to explore their interests and express themselves creatively are ever more scarce. Far too few students have access to the kind of high-quality music education that will teach them to play an instrument while imparting life skills that are critical to success. These young people, underserved students of color especially, not only lack opportunity, they lack relatable role models who can show them what’s possible for people who look like them.
In this world where barriers abound, parents are understandably worried. Will their kids be able to pursue a college education? How will they navigate the application process or find scholarships? And in the meantime, where can their children go after school to feel safe, seen, and heard?
High-quality after-school activities can cost a small fortune, putting them totally out of reach for so many families. But Key to Change ensures that every family, no matter their means, can get world-class instruction in a diverse environment where every student belongs.
Since we offered our very first lessons in 2017, we’ve been able to offer rates that are more than 50% below market averages, thanks to donors like you. This fall we took our commitment to accessibility even further with our boldest move yet: Students from households making less than $50,000 a year can now enroll for a full term with Key to Change for just $25 total.
Why? Because every student deserves the chance to learn an instrument alongside peers who share their love of music. Every student deserves to build up their confidence and develop life-changing skills like discipline, resilience, purpose, and collaboration. Every student matters.
