Group lessons are our most popular lesson option. They’re great for students who want to make progress in a fun, collaborative environment alongside peers who share their love for music.

Classes for Any Level

Whether you’re a beginner or you’ve been playing your instrument for a while, we have a group class that’s right for you.

Key to Change offers six different group classes, each of which is designed for students of a different skill level. Placement in each group is based on musical ability as well as your schedule and preferences. Our staff will help you get started in the class that works best for you.

New Beginners

30 minutes, meets twice a week Cost: $500 per trimester ($17.85 per lesson)

This class is for students who are new to playing the violin or viola. It’s ideal for those  who want to learn the mechanics of the instrument and/or are interested in participating in their school orchestra program. Students in this class are expected to practice 5 days a week for an average of 15 minutes per day.

For Fun

60 minutes, meets once per week Cost: $350 per trimester ($17.85 per lesson)

This class is for students who have been playing the violin or viola for at least one year, who enjoy playing an instrument, but are busy with other activities that prevent them from practicing regularly. Students who take this class play various styles of music and learn music theory and basic musicianship. Students are encouraged, but not required, to practice outside of class.

Andante

60 minutes, meets once per week Cost: $350 per trimester ($25 per lesson)

This class is for students who are new to Key to Change, who have been playing the violin or viola for at least two years. Students learn a variety of techniques and pieces. Students who wish to advance into another group class can request an assessment one month before a new trimester begins. Students in this class are expected to practice 5 days a week for 30 minutes per day.

Joseph White

60 minutes, meets twice per week
Cost: $1,000 per trimester ($35.70 per lesson)

This class is for students who have been playing for at least two years and  can play a minimum of five major or minor scales. Students work in String Basics books 2 and 3, learn technique, and solo/ensemble repertoire that is performed with piano. Students new to Key to Change must complete an assessment  before being admitted to this class. Students in this class are expected to practice 6 days a week for an average of 45 minutes per day.

Saint-Georges

60 minutes, meet twice per week Cost: $1,000 per trimester ($35.70 per lesson)

This class is for students who have been playing for at least three years. Students work in String Basics Book 3 and Tucker-Rhoda technique book, and learn other technical studies. This class is perfect for students who are interested in learning shifting, vibrato, more advanced techniques, solo/ensemble repertoire, and performing at concerts and events. Students in this class are expected to practice 6 days a week for an average of 60 minutes per day.

Allegro

30 minutes, meets twice per week Cost: $500 per trimester ($17.85 per lesson)

This class is for students who have been playing for a minimum of one year, who can play a one octave D major scale and are comfortable using all four fingers on the fingerboard. Students work in String Basics Book 1, Suzuki Book 1 and learn short violin pieces. New students must complete an assessment session before being admitted to this class. Students who enroll in this class are expected to practice 5 days a week for an average of 30 minutes per day.
