Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Natasha Kubit hits the ground running

Just one month into her new role, Dr. Natasha Kubit, Key to Change’s first full-time music instructor, is already making a big impact in our studio and community.

Dr. Kubit moved to Seattle earlier this summer after completing her doctorate in violin performance at Michigan State University. She has vast experience teaching students of all ages and backgrounds, including through the Sato Center for Suzuki Studies and Cleveland’s Say Yes to Education program. Her passion for teaching and deep musical expertise are already transforming the student experience at Key to Change.

Upon arriving in Washington, Dr. Kubit jumped right into leadership of our new summer program, Symphony South, a partnership with the Federal Way School District. She worked with students over four weeks as they gathered four days a week for intensive instruction—string orchestra rehearsals, sectionals, and masterclasses. More than 50 new students participated, and the demand was even greater than expected. Dr. Kubit helped the students exceed their expectations.

We introduced Dr. Kubit to the Key to Change community at our Spring Salon in May, and now she’s fully embedded in our program—teaching private and group lessons, coaching ensembles, and helping us prepare for a big fall term. With her leadership, we’re expanding our reach and deepening the quality of instruction for every student who walks through our doors.

Hiring a full-time faculty member is one of the most significant steps forward in our organization’s history. Made possible by a generous grant from Pitch Your Peers Seattle, this role allows us to offer even more consistent, high-level teaching—and ensures that no student falls through the cracks.

We’re thrilled to have Dr. Kubit on board and excited for all that’s to come. Stay tuned for more updates as we head into a new school year full of promise, progress, and music.
