Group Lessons

Learn Together. Grow Together.

Group lessons are our most popular lesson option. Students build stronger skills, gain confidence, and make music alongside other young musicians at a similar level at our Renton and Federal Way locations.

And getting started may be more affordable than you think. Students from households earning less than $50,000 a year may qualify for $25 tuition for the entire term, subject to eligibility and available space.

Classes for Any Level

Whether you’re picking up a violin or viola for the first time or you’ve been playing for years, there’s a group class where you can grow.

Key to Change offers four group classes, each designed for a different level of experience. Students can begin by learning the fundamentals of sound, technique, and musicianship.

Not sure which class is right for you? You don’t have to figure it out on your own. Our staff will help place you in the class that best matches your playing level, schedule, goals, and preferred location.

Class Features

Four levels, from beginning through advanced
Up to 12 students in each class
Classes meet for 60 minutes
Students attend two group classes each week
Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday schedules
Classes offered between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer terms
Classes available at our Renton and Federal Way locations
Financial aid available for qualifying families

Fall Term: September 21 – December 11

New Beginners

60 minutes, twice a week
Cost: $1,000 ($45.45/lesson)

This class is for students who are new to playing the violin or viola. It’s ideal for those who want to learn the mechanics of the instrument and/or are interested in participating in their school orchestra program. Students in this class are expected to practice 5 days a week for an average of 15 minutes per day.

For Fun

60 minutes, once a week
Cost: $350 ($31.82/lesson)

This class is for students who have been playing the violin or viola for at least one year, who enjoy playing an instrument, but are busy with other activities that prevent them from practicing regularly. Students who take this class play various styles of music and learn music theory and basic musicianship. Students are encouraged, but not required, to practice outside of class.

Andante

60 minutes, once a week
Cost: $350 ($31.82/lesson)

This class is for students who are new to Key to Change, who have been playing the violin or viola for at least two years. Students learn a variety of techniques and pieces. Students who wish to advance into another group class can request an assessment one month before a new trimester begins. Students in this class are expected to practice 5 days a week for 30 minutes per day.

Joseph White

60 minutes, twice a week
Cost: $1,000 ($45.45/lesson)

This class is for students who have been playing for at least two years and can play a minimum of five major or minor scales. Students work in String Basics books 2 and 3, learn technique, and solo/ensemble repertoire that is performed with piano. Students new to Key to Change must complete an assessment before being admitted to this class. Students in this class are expected to practice 6 days a week for an average of 45 minutes per day.

Saint-Georges

60 minutes, twice a week
Cost: $1,000 ($45.45/lesson)

This class is for students who have been playing for at least three years. Students work in String Basics Book 3 and Tucker-Rhoda technique book, and learn other technical studies. This class is perfect for students who are interested in learning shifting, vibrato, more advanced techniques, solo/ensemble repertoire, and performing at concerts and events. Students in this class are expected to practice 6 days a week for an average of 60 minutes per day.

Allegro

60 minutes, twice a week
Cost: $1,000 ($45.45/lesson)

This class is for students who have been playing for a minimum of one year, who can play a one octave D major scale and are comfortable using all four fingers on the fingerboard. Students work in String Basics Book 1, Suzuki Book 1 and learn short violin pieces. New students must complete an assessment session before being admitted to this class. Students who enroll in this class are expected to practice 5 days a week for an average of 30 minutes per day.

Lesson Options

Our students learn various styles of music in a diverse and healthy environment. Each student is taught by a renowned university professor who help you make major progress in a matter of weeks. Our curriculum is designed to give you confidence and teach you to be responsible, caring musicians who are role models in your schools and communities.

We offer a range of lesson options, so you can pick the one that fits you best. Scholarships are available for each option.
