An Unforgettable Visit from Hilary Hahn

Last Friday, something extraordinary happened at our Renton studio: Hilary Hahn, arguably the world’s greatest violinist, visited Key to Change to lead a masterclass with our students.

Hilary was eager to listen to students at the beginner and intermediate levels of musical and technical development. In front of a packed audience, she coached each student individually, offering insightful tips that led to immediate, noticeable improvements in their playing. After the student performances, Hilary engaged in a Q&A session with students and parents, and closed the evening by playing two stunning encore pieces.

Our students were starstruck. Hilary is an artist they all deeply admire. For some, it was also a full-circle moment: In February 2024, a group of our students and donors traveled to Boston to hear Hilary perform as soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra during a special Key to Change trip.

With multiple GRAMMY Awards, a global reputation, and a dedicated following on social media, Hilary brought undeniable star power to our studio. But more importantly, she brought heartfelt curiosity and genuine interest in our students, not just as musicians, but as people.

Her visit was an unforgettable milestone that elevated our mission of providing world-class music instruction to new heights.
