Key to Change has expanded its footprint in South King County with the opening of a new teaching location serving middle and high school students in the Federal Way area. The new site officially opened on February 2, 2026, and will host group violin and viola lessons beginning this month. Group lessons previously offered in Des Moines will now take place at Federal Way United Methodist Church, providing a centralized location for students and families.

The expansion comes in response to growing demand from families in South King County seeking accessible, high-quality music education opportunities for middle and high school students. Group lessons previously offered in Des Moines have transitioned to the new Federal Way site, allowing the organization to better serve students closer to where they live and attend school.

“We are thrilled to expand our presence in the Federal Way area,” said Dr. Quinton Morris, Executive Director & Founder of Key to Change. “For years, we’ve heard from families who wanted their students to participate in violin and viola lessons but faced distance or access challenges. Opening this location means more students can experience the confidence, creativity, and community that music education provides. We’re deeply grateful to now offer this opportunity closer to home.”

Federal Way is one of the most diverse communities in Washington State, and the fifth most populous city in King County at over 100,000 people and growing. By establishing a dedicated teaching location in the area, Key to Change strengthens its commitment to equitable access and community-centered partnerships across South King County.

While the organization’s Renton location remains home to the majority of its programming, the new Federal Way site significantly increases regional access and reduces transportation barriers for families, strengthens community partnerships, and expands opportunities for young musicians.

Financial Aid Opportunities for Interested Students

Ensuring affordability remains central to Key to Change’s mission.

Households earning $50,000 or below may enroll students for just $25 for the winter term. Students who do not meet that threshold are still encouraged to enroll and may qualify for additional financial aid.

The organization’s goal is to remove financial barriers so that no student is excluded from participation due to cost.

Attend Our Open House on February 19
