Key to Change is a grant recipient of Seattle Symphony’s inaugural Community Stages Fund. Through this award, the Seattle Symphony will serve as the host of Key to Change’s annual Solo String Festival on April 9-11, 2021. This grant gives Key to Change use of the performance and backstage spaces of Benaroya Hall and access to digital streaming equipment, production crew and other streaming infrastructure.

“I am thrilled that Key to Change is partnering with the Seattle Symphony through their Community Stages Fund for our annual Solo String Festival,” said Dr. Quinton Morris, Executive Director & Founder of Key to Change. “This is going to grant a lot of students from South King County access to perform on the renowned stage and this experience will live with them for a very long time. I’m very excited about that.”

The Solo String Festival is open to middle and high school violin and viola students who attend school in South King County. Students have the opportunity to compete for scholarship money as well as a chance to play live on Classical King FM.

“The Seattle Symphony’s Community Stages Fund helps ensure that our city’s diverse communities gain equitable access to our performance venues,” shared Krishna Thiagarajan, President & CEO of the Seattle Symphony, at the initiative’s launch. “We are eager to share our lessons learned and assist other organizations in utilizing this space and technology that will help them to reach their audiences in Seattle and beyond.”

Through the Community Stages Fund, the Seattle Symphony will use its looks to use its digital platform to amplify the voices of the Pacific Northwest and give back to the organizations who have helped to shape and grow the region’s cultural landscape.

Applications for the Solo String Festival will be accepted through March 15, 2021 at 11:59pm PST.
