Key to Change has been awarded a Curiosity Pass Cultural Education Grant from 4Culture. This two year grant supports youth serving organizations that expand learning opportunities in K-12 public schools across King County.
The Curiosity Pass program invests in projects that increase access to high quality cultural education for young people. Key to Change’s commitment to providing world class music instruction to historically underserved youth closely aligns with the program’s goal of expanding and strengthening cultural access. The grant will support young musicians in their holistic development, both during the school day and through extended learning opportunities.
4Culture works to fund, support, and advocate for culture in order to enhance the quality of life in King County, with a strong commitment to racial equity.
“Key to Change is committed to public school students all across South King County,” said Robert Simonds, Director of Strategic Relationships and Partnerships at Key to Change. “With these two years of support from 4Culture, we will be able to grow and strengthen our proven partnerships with schools to create more arts opportunities for students, families, and teachers through world-class music instruction, academic support, and professional development.”
Key to Change was awarded $160,000 to support music instruction and related programming. The funding was awarded through a competitive process in which a panel of arts, heritage, preservation, and science professionals reviewed 184 applications. 4Culture awarded a total of $8,577,140 per year to 173 organizations.
Support from local and state partners is essential to sustaining access to arts education, particularly as many public schools face ongoing funding challenges. Arts programs are often among the first areas impacted by budget shortfalls. This investment from 4Culture ensures that students in South King County continue to receive high quality music education and meaningful artistic opportunities.
