Johnaye Kendrick is featured as our Composer-in-Residence for 2026-27
Key to Change Composer-in-Residence, Johnaye Kendrick, was featured on December 3, 2025 by The Seattle Medium. The Seattle Medium is an African-American founded paper that has been serving Seattle, Washington since 1970. In the piece, Dr. Quinton Morris and Johnaye both expressed their excitement for her appointment beginning next month at the start of our winter term. She will be working with our violin and viola students on original music composition.
Johnaye Kendrick is a two-time GRAMMY-Award winning vocalist, arranger, composer, orchestrator, and multi-instrumentalist whose work spans the boundaries of jazz, contemporary music, and original composition. Known for her breathtaking vocal artistry and innovative approach to arrangement, she creates music that is as thoughtful as it is captivating. She is the current Chair of Music at Cornish College of the Arts at Seattle University and a member of the all-female vocal ensemble group, säje.
