Young Artist Academy musicians take center stage with regional symphonies
Avi Spillers debuts with the Seattle Symphony in 2023
This season, three of our outstanding students will step into the spotlight for their debuts with regional orchestras. Even for seasoned professionals, performing as a soloist is a rare honor, and for young musicians who have only been playing for only a few years, these opportunities are almost unheard of.
We are thrilled to celebrate these extraordinary accomplishments:
On October 11, Mt. Rainier High School junior Avi Spillers will make her solo debut with the Northwest Symphony Orchestra. Avi previously made her debut with the GRAMMY-winning Seattle Symphony in October 2023. Having started violin lessons with us during the pandemic on Zoom and studying for just four years, Avi’s growth as a musician has been nothing short of remarkable. Don’t miss the chance to witness her continued artistic journey in this major performance.
On October 19, Thomas Luu, a freshman at Raisbeck Aviation High School will make his solo debut with the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra. Thomas has been playing the violin for only three years, yet his progress has been extraordinary. It is truly rare for a student to reach this level so quickly, a testament to his hard work, dedication, and love for music. Join us in celebrating his milestone performance.
On October 29, Hazen High School senior Mason Nguyen will make his debut with the Seattle Symphony, a moment made even more special as his viola teacher Mara Gearman will perform in the orchestra that evening. Mason will also debut with the Federal Way Symphony on December 6. Mason’s journey with Key to Change began in group lessons and within one year, he advanced to private instruction. Soon after, he was invited as a featured soloist with both the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra and the Northwest Symphony Orchestra. Today, Mason continues to build a reputation and sought-after young artist.
