Dr. Quinton Morris, Founder and Executive Director of Key to Change, had the honor of performing for former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden this past Friday during an intimate gathering at the Seattle home of Ambassador Roger Nyhus. The special event was held as part of Dr. Biden’s national book tour and brought together a small group of community leaders, supporters, and guests to celebrate her latest work and lifelong commitment to education.

Dr. Morris opened the afternoon with a solo violin performance featuring jazz selections before offering brief remarks recognizing Dr. Biden’s enduring dedication to students and educators across the country. During his remarks, he reflected on their shared passion for expanding educational opportunities and thanked her for the encouragement she has shown young people through the years.

“I want to thank you for inspiring our students at Key to Change,” Dr. Morris shared. “Your belief in the power of education has encouraged so many young people to dream bigger and pursue opportunities they once thought were beyond their reach.”

The occasion also marked a meaningful milestone in a relationship that has developed over many years. This was the third time Dr. Morris has had the opportunity to meet Dr. Biden through music and public service. In 2009, he performed for Dr. Biden and former First Lady Michelle Obama during their visit to Seattle. More recently in 2023, Key to Change students had the privilege of performing for Dr. Biden, an experience that left a lasting impression on the young musicians and reinforced the organization’s belief that music can open doors to extraordinary opportunities.

Following the performance and remarks, Dr. Biden greeted guests and spoke with attendees, including Dr. Morris, continuing a conversation centered on education, leadership, and the importance of investing in the next generation. Her warmth and generosity made the gathering especially meaningful for those in attendance.

Reflecting on the afternoon, Dr. Morris noted that moments like these remind students that music is far more than performance. It is a bridge that connects communities, inspires dialogue, and creates opportunities to engage with leaders who share a commitment to service and education. For Key to Change, the invitation to this event reflected the organization’s growing presence within the broader community and its ongoing mission to inspire underserved students through world-class music instruction while developing the next generation of thoughtful, compassionate leaders. Experiences like these demonstrate how the arts can bring together people from every sector to celebrate learning, service, and the transformative power of music.
